November at Place des Arts: Highly Anticipated Returns
November is shaping up to be a busy month at Place des Arts! Big names and must-see shows are back to set our stages ablaze. If you’re looking for an antidote to the seasonal blues, here it is—a richly diverse program that’s sure to bring you a ray of sunshine!
Music to Warm Up the Month!
November starts off strong with talented oud player Joseph Tawadros, returning to the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal for two exceptional concerts on November 5 and 6 at the Maison symphonique. Get ready for an exotic evening filled with vibrant rhythms.
The Émile Proulx-Cloutier symphonique show is also back by popular demand, following its triumphant first performance last year. For this exceptional evening of spectacular urban poetry, the singer-songwriter will be accompanied by the Orchestre de l’Agora, under the direction of conductor Julien Proulx. At the Maison symphonique on November 20.
And finally on the musical front, the Soweto Gospel Choir returns to Théâtre Maisonneuve with its new show, Peace, on November 22 and 23. This legendary South African ensemble blends songs of freedom with traditional spirituals and music by such artists as Aretha Franklin, Harry Belafonte, Peter Gabriel, and Leonard Cohen. The choir—a winner of multiple Grammys® and other prestigious awards—thrills audiences wherever it takes to the stage.
Dance, Theatre, and Song
Dance fans will also have something to get excited about, as internationally renowned choreographer Hofesh Shechter—a familiar figure on the program at Danse Danse—presents a new show, Theatre of Dreams, which explores the limits of movement and emotions. From November 4 to 8 in Théâtre Maisonneuve.
Those longing for some French chanson will have one last chance to attend a Montreal performance of the Brel et Barbara | Héros Fragiles show, starring Renaud Paradis and Julie Daoust. A not-to-be-missed event that celebrates two monuments of the French-speaking world, on November 18 in the Cinquième Salle.
On the theatre stage, presenter and author Émilie Perreault returns with La suspension consentie de l’incredulité, a theatrical monologue that examines the importance of culture in our lives. A deeply moving show. From November 28 to 30 in the Cinquième Salle.
The Laughs Keep Coming
Comedy also gets its time in the spotlight at Place des Arts this November.
After 556 performances of his first show, Sam Breton is back with a new one-man show entitled Ga-lé aller. Why make things complicated? November 11 in Théâtre Maisonneuve.
Patrice L’Ecuyer also has an evocative title for his big return to the stage: Après seulement 32 ans d’absence sur scène, his first one-man show filled with anecdotes about his life and career. November 18 in Théâtre Maisonneuve.
Last but not least, Louis T returns with Mâle Alpha, his latest show that takes an intelligent look at today’s masculinity. November 21 in the Cinquième Salle.
We also need to mention two shows that are already sold out: the latest run of songs by legendary lowbrow Plume Latraverse (November 21), and Janette, a theatrical work paying tribute to the most famous of Quebec centenarians, Janette Bertrand (from November 29 to December 14). Stay tuned, additional tickets are sometimes made available...
The rich November menu is a reminder of why Place des Arts remains the vibrant cultural heart of the city, year after year!
