Éducation esthétique
An approach that has delivered results for over a decade
Éducation esthétique is an approach to learning through the arts that places students at the center of the process. It transforms the encounter with a work of art into a genuine experience of active exploration and learning.
For more than 10 years, Place des Arts has been developing and refining this approach through its implementation in the classroom. Place des Arts has also been working to measure the impact on students through a study conducted with 762 young people, in collaboration with Marie-Christine Beaudry, professor in the Department of Language Didactics at UQAM’s Faculty of Education, and director of the Master’s program in Teaching.
Broadening horizons through éducation esthétique
Éducation esthétique fosters ongoing dialogue between students, teachers and artist-mediators. It connects the artistic experience to the development of transferable skills used throughout their education.
Its effects are quickly reflected in students’ engagement, and they continue well beyond their academic journey. By actively involving them at every stage, this approach stimulates imagination, nurtures creativity, develops critical thinking and deepens reflection. It also encourages them to adopt a mindset of curiosity and openness toward themselves, others and the world around them.
In the classroom, this approach also transforms the atmosphere, creating more space for empathy, inclusion, and perseverance.
