Brilliant virtuosity and symphonic grandeur unite in this romantic program featuring Strauss, Mendelssohn, and Brahms, conducted by Marie-Claire Cardinal and Julien Proulx.

The concert opens with Strauss’s Die Fledermaus Overture, conducted by Marie-Claire Cardinal—a lively, sparkling piece that sets the tone for the evening.

In collaboration with the Société de musique contemporaine du Québec (SMCQ), l'Orchestre de la Francophonie presents new works by two remarkable young composers: Charles-Vincent Lemelin and Louis-Michel Tougas.

Under the inspired leadership of Julien Proulx, the concert continues with Mendelssohn’s Piano Concerto No. 1, a spirited, brilliant, and intimate dialogue for orchestra and piano. Élisabeth Pion shines with her grace, dynamism, and dramatic flair.

In the second half, Brahms’s monumental final symphony stands out as one of the pinnacles of his orchestral writing. Grand in scale, complex, and deeply moving, the work combines rigour, intensity, and tragic grandeur to create a symphonic masterpiece of truly gripping power.
