A concert that explores the guitar’s vast expressive power across centuries and cultures.
Opening with David Kellner’s Aria, Fantasia et Gigue, we hear Baroque elegance reimagined for modern guitar. Four Spanish gems follow: Malats’ lyrical Serenata Española, Tárrega’s beloved Capricho Árabe, and Albéniz’s evocative Asturias and Sevilla, showcasing passionate folkloric idioms through masterful transcriptions. Costa Rican composer Edín Solís brings fresh Latin American colours in Pasaje Abierto, a vibrant prelude and dance.
After intermission, Suzie Auclair’s compositions offer profound contemporary reflections, traversing moods from contemplative to agitated. Concluding the program, my own Spirit suite journeys through mythical and personal landscapes, from the driving Dance of the Jinn to the serene Meditativo, culminating with Motherland — a homage to roots and identity.
Together, these works celebrate the guitar’s enduring ability to transcend time and borders, uniting audiences through its universal voice.
