Powerful lyrics brought to life on stage by a renowned singer-songwriter provide a vivid glimpse into our local culture. In the classroom, students explore the art and inner workings of a song.

As part of our Education program, Louis-Jean Cormier will present an inspiring show for your students at the iconic Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier. Following the 60-minute performance, the artist will take part in a discussion with students and answer their questions.

Louis-Jean Cormier rose to prominence as the singer and guitarist of Montreal indie rock band Karkwa, which won the 2010 Polaris Music Prize for Les Chemins de verre—a first for a French-language album. He then launched a solo career with albums such as Le treizième étage (2012) and Les grandes artères (2015), both widely recognized with awards and nominations, including at the Junos. Since 2025, he has been touring his intimate solo show, Les Entretoits, revisiting his most popular songs.

In-class workshops

To introduce students to the artistic discipline featured in the show (French music), our school program includes one or two workshops, depending on your preference, led at your school by an experienced artist-mediator. Two workshops are recommended to explore the topic in greater depth.

In connection with the performance, the workshops will introduce students to songwriting and stage presence. They will explore writing, composing and performing, while discovering the artistic choices available to a singer-songwriter. Students will then be invited to express different sides of themselves through words and imagery.

  • In-class workshop period: January 5 to April 30, 2027

  • Duration: 75 minutes

  • Maximum capacity: 40 students

  • Location: in the classroom (except for schools outside the Greater Montreal area)

  • Cost per person (including the show): $15.50 for 1 workshop or $23 for 2 workshops

The workshop schedule will be sent by email on September 15, 2026, allowing you to reserve your time slot(s).
