Stravinsky creates a sonic theatre of wild inventiveness, fuelled by the audacity of his original collaborators—Fokine, Benois, Diaghilev—who dreamed of a spectacle blurring the lines between puppets and humans.

With this new creation that celebrates Janette Bertrand, Rébecca Déraspe imagines a lively conversation between the grande dame, played by Guylaine Tremblay, and several generations of characters.

Choreographed by Fernand Nault to Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s sumptuous score and inspired by E. T. A. Hoffmann’s tale, The Nutcracker has, over the decades, grown from a ballet into an enduring family holiday tradition. Its staging exudes timeless poetry and a warmth we are always delighted to rediscover, year after year.
