Met with great enthusiasm when it premiered in 2023, this production now returns to the stage. Inspired by both the Brothers Grimm’s tale and Charles Perrault’s version, and carried by Prokofiev’s radiant score, choreographer Jayne Smeulders has created a ballet of remarkable poetry, where magic, humour, and emotion intertwine.
Between a cruel stepmother and two jealous stepsisters, Cinderella grows up in the shadows, condemned to menial tasks and silent dreams. Yet, at the heart of this faded existence, a glimmer of hope endures, along with the longing for a different destiny. The day her fairy godmother appears, Cinderella’s life is turned upside down, and the young girl is swept into a world where anything is possible.
In a shimmering visual world of enchanted sets and sparkling costumes, Cinderella unfolds in a luminous and generous dance, taking performers and audiences of all ages on a timeless journey.
