Terms of Use: Gift Cards issued by the Société de la Place des Arts de Montréal
1. Conditions. As mentioned in the gift card purchase process, these terms (the “Terms of Use”) govern any purchase of a virtual or physical gift card made from the Société de la Place des Arts de Montréal (“PdA”), as well as the subsequent use of the gift card.
2. Purchasing a gift card. Gift cards can be obtained from PdA via its box office located at 175 Sainte-Catherine Street West (the “PdA Box Office”) or its website: www.placedesarts.com (the “Website”).
- Physical gift cards. The available amounts for a physical gift card are $10, $25, $50, $75, and $100. A maximum of 8 physical gift cards can be purchased at the PdA Box Office.
- Virtual gift cards. The available amounts for a virtual gift card are $25, $50, $100, $150, and $200. Only one virtual gift card can be purchased per online transaction.
3. Sales tax. Gift Cards are not subject to sales tax. However, when used, gift cards serve as a means of payment and sales tax applies to the product being purchased.
4. Fees. Gift cards do not have any associated activation or usage fees.
5. Purchases made with a gift card. The holder of a gift card can use it to purchase tickets for shows, events, and/or parking exclusively from PDA. Therefore, PDA’s General Terms of Sale for Tickets apply.
6. Online and Box Office use.
- Virtual gift cards. On the Website, the buyer must select the designated box to apply the virtual gift card to the purchase being made. The value of the gift card will be used up to the purchase amount. If the value of the gift card does not cover the invoice, the remaining balance must be paid using another method authorized by PdA.
- Physical gift cards. At the PdA Box Office, a gift card must be presented before the transaction takes place. The value of the gift card will be used up to the purchase amount. If the value of the gift card does not cover the invoice, the remaining balance must be paid using another method authorized by PdA.
7. Balance check. The balance on a virtual gift card can be checked on the Website in the activated gift card holder’s Customer Account.
The balance on a physical gift card can be checked by contacting the PdA Box Office at 514 842-2112 / 1 866 842-2112 (toll-free).
8. Validity. Gift cards do not have an expiry date. They remain valid until the card balance is depleted.
9. Cancellation of a show/event. If a show or event is cancelled, any amount paid with a gift card will be refunded by the issuance of a new gift card of the same format (physical or virtual) as the one initially used.
10. Non-refundable/exchangeable/reloadable. Gift cards cannot be redeemed for cash, are not refundable, and cannot be reloaded.
11. Refund of a remaining balance.
- Virtual gift cards. Purchases will be deducted from the balance until the card value reaches $0.00.
- Physical gift cards. When $10 or less remains on a physical gift card, the customer can request a refund at the PdA Box Office.
12. Ownership and information. A gift card can only be used by its sole owner. The owner is responsible for protecting information related to its use and for not sharing it.
13. Liability. PdA is not responsible for the loss, theft, illegal use, or use in violation of the Terms of Use or Terms of Sale of the gift card. PdA is not responsible for errors in the recipient’s email address, nor for sending an email or a personalized message for a virtual gift card.
14. Replacement. A damaged/defective physical gift card can only be replaced if the information on it allows for its identification and if a balance remains on it.
15. Cancellation and limitation. PdA may cancel or limit the use of a gift card, without prior notice, if it has reason to believe that such use is contrary to the Terms of Use, the Terms of Sale, is fraudulent, and/or is in violation of applicable laws, including those in criminal law and consumer law.
These Terms of Use come into effect on November 26, 2025.
