Join a sunny, vibrant, unifying, and introspective musical celebration in the intimate setting of the Cinquième Salle. Grèn Sémé reinvents maloya—the traditional music of Réunion Island—by melding it with African pop, dub, and electro.
Driven by Carlo De Sacco’s socially committed and poetic lyrics sung in Creole, Grèn Sémé’s concerts unfold as organic performances that are vibrant, danceable, modern, and immersive. Formed in Montpellier in 2006, the group forged a unique sonic identity from the outset, rooted in the ternary rhythms of the Indian Ocean: maloya, séga, and salegy.
In 2013, they released their self-titled debut album, followed by Hors Sol (2016), winner of the Coup de cœur award from the Académie Charles Cros, and then Zamroza (2022). In April 2024, a vibrant and danceable EP titled Maloya Gazé was released, revealing the group’s more festive side with organic maloya music tailor-made for the dance floor, remixed by DJ Voilaaa, La Dame, and Guiss Guiss Bou Bess. Grèn Sémé is currently working on a fourth album, furthering their constantly evolving path, while remaining faithful to their free-spirited writing and activist lyrics.
