Hiatus shines a spotlight on frozen-in-time moments where nothing is happening—intervals that are fundamental to childhood games and creativity.

Addressing the concepts of territories, spaces, and partitions, the performance area is defined by a wooden palisade and a chain-link fence. Confined to this yard, two associates take pleasure in constructing and deconstructing sculptures, weavings, spaces, and pathways using wooden blocks and clothing they have at hand. Through a window, a neighbouring musician unknowingly accompanies the meanderings of their creations and their relationship.

The musical soundscape sets wind instruments—clarinet, saxophone, and various flutes—to the rhythms of everyday sounds and the materials being handled… giving the instrumentalist free rein to take inspiration both from the artists on stage and the environment around them.
