This evening of dance offers a unique artistic journey through the strength and grace of a solo by Margie Gillis, the sensitive quantum space created by Nicholas Bellefleur, and an immersive, introspective solo by Liam Francis—an embodied history of dance.
New Creation by Margie Gillis
For this new creation, Margie Gillis presents a brand-new, never-before-seen solo that celebrates freedom, creativity, and the strength of women through movement. A major figure in Canadian dance with over 150 works to her credit, Margie Gillis has dedicated her career to transmission, innovation, and performance for over 50 years through her dance foundation.
SACRED DISASTER by Nicholas Bellefleur
SACRED DISASTER is a choreographic journey that explores the transformations of life through changing bodies and liminal spaces. Straddling the line between ritual and everyday life, tenderness and chaos, the work examines how we coexist in an uncertain world. Driven by dance, song, and text, the piece transforms transitional spaces into sensitive territories where vulnerability, resilience, and the desire for community intersect.
Lyre Liar by Liam Francis
Lyre Liar is a hybrid solo conceived and performed by Liam Francis, combining performance and lecture-demonstration to offer an intimate glimpse into the world of dance. Through excerpts from works by Merce Cunningham, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, and Kate Prince, the artist recounts his journey with sincerity and vulnerability. Between moments of dance and spoken word, the piece explores the dancer’s multiple identities and their transformations. He unpacks the complexities of shifting identities, the toll it takes, and the questions it leaves behind, inviting the audience to discover the hidden realities of life as a professional performer.
