To conclude its musical season and to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Université de Montréal Faculty of Music, the Orchestre de l’Université de Montréal (OUM) invites you to a grand-scale concert at Maison symphonique de Montréal.

To open, Luh! by Alexander Bridger, first-prize winner in the OUM’s Composition Competition, draws its inspiration from a Newfoundland exclamation meaning “Look!” The work presents a lively, contrasting reflection on our attention economy, evoking the dynamics of compulsive scrolling and doomscrolling, while revealing the full textural richness of the symphony orchestra.

The audience will then get to discover the talent of cellist Tobias Kimmelman, third-prize winner in the OUM’s Concerto Competition, in Ernest Bloch’s moving work Schelomo, Rhapsodie hébraïque for Cello and Orchestra.

In the second part, the OUM will be joined on stage by a chorus made up of students and graduates of the Faculty of Music in a performance of Beethoven’s monumental Symphony No. 9, featuring four soloists who are graduates of the faculty. With its famous “Ode to Joy,” the iconic work will transform the event into a true collective, festive, powerful and luminous celebration.

A musical rendezvous in tune with an exceptional anniversary.
