Jerry Seinfeld Live: The King of “Nothing” Returns to Montreal
Why do we keep standing in line? What’s with the apps on our phones? Life’s little absurdities deserve our scrutiny, and no one knows how to give them that attention better than observational comedy’s biggest star, Jerry Seinfeld. We’re taking a look back at the comedian’s brilliant career as he gets ready to return to the Montreal stage for a memorable evening of laughs.
At 72—though he looks ten years younger—, Jerry Seinfeld is a global comedy icon. His fame stems, of course, from the hit sitcom that bears his name, created with his friend Larry David, which enjoyed a nine-season run on NBC (1990-1998). A series that made him the only billionaire comedian on the planet!
In 2021, Netflix even paid $500 million to bring this “show about nothing” to its subscribers, giving a new generation the chance to enjoy the antics of Jerry, George, Elaine, and Kramer as they went about their lives in New York.
That said, Jerry hasn’t been twiddling his thumbs since Seinfeld ended.
In addition to his perpetual touring, he created the Netflix series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee in 2012. The premise of the series is clearly stated in its title: each episode features Jerry spending time with famous comedians, picking them up in a car and heading out for coffee…
More recently, in 2024, he starred in Unfrosted, a comedy he wrote and directed, whose plot revolves around the invention of Pop-Tarts.
The Stage: His Ecosystem
With all his success and a half-century in show business behind him, Jerry Seinfeld could easily just spend his time enjoying pleasant days at his huge
estate in the Hamptons. But that’s not the case: the man feels most at home on stage, with a microphone in his hand.
He continues to take his observational humour out on the road. He’s a regular in Montreal, with tickets selling out at lightning speed every time he visits… proof that the king of “nothing” enjoys a vast following in the city.
However, it’s been 10 years since he last performed at Place des Arts. But thankfully, the drought is over! Jerry Seinfeld is returning to Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier for two shows on the same evening, July 23, as part of the Just for Laughs festival.
His show, Jerry Seinfeld Live, is a continuation of his entire body of work. To our great delight, the comedian is still delving into the irritants of modern life, from our compulsive relationship with screens to our collective obsession with hydration… taking us through his world with the perfect comic timing we have come to expect from a comedy legend!s’attendre d’une légende de la comédie!
