A work of radical naturalism, Olivier Messiaen’s monumental Catalogue d’oiseaux stands apart in the solo piano literature, a great hymn to nature by a creator who never tired of marvelling at the astonishing beauty of landscapes or the magic of birdsong. A close friend of the composer and a performer par excellence of his music, Pierre-Laurent Aimard takes us on an extraordinary voyage through Messiaen’s sound world. It will be a journey in four stages through the avian trajectory imagined by Messiaen, replicating the time of day at which each of the birds sings.
