A visionary quest, a duty of remembrance and a symbol of peace and hope: the late Israeli luthier Amnon Weinstein and his son Avshalom have restored violins salvaged from the Holocaust since the late 1990s, building a collection of more than 70 instruments. The gleam of these instruments’ varnish sends a powerful message of hope to the world and a compelling call to remember. In the same spirit of peace and fellowship, the musicians of the Orchestre Philharmonique du Québec, their conductor Alexandre Da Costa and renowned soprano Sharon Azrieli come together in a performance of emotionally charged repertoire celebrating Jewish music. Also on the program: masterpieces by Sibelius, Elgar, and Copland. Several instruments of the legendary Violins of Hope collection will be heard.
