With its new show “Peace,” the Soweto Gospel Choir is making its return to North America with a vibrant and colourful concert combining South African freedom songs, traditional spirituals, and classics, along with the upbeat music of Aretha Franklin, Harry Belafonte, Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush, Leonard Cohen, and many more!
A winner of multiple Grammy® Awards, an Emmy®, and several other prestigious awards, in addition to being nominated for an Oscar (with Peter Gabriel), the choir was formed in 2002 to celebrate the unique power of African gospel music, quickly establishing itself as an ensemble that is “undeniably synchronized, appears unshakable, and simultaneously expresses universality and individuality” (San Francisco Classical Voice).
Heralded by Nelson Mandela, Desmond Tutu, Barack Obama, and Oprah Winfrey, and having collaborated with such renowned artists as U2, John Legend, Chance the Rapper, Céline Dion, Bono, Diana Ross, Pharrell Williams, and others, with appearances on NBC’s popular Today Show and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, the Soweto Gospel Choir excites audiences worldwide, spreading joy through its earthy rhythms, rich harmonies, brilliant costumes, and infectious spirit.
A perfect show for the whole family!
