Dancing, from 6 p.m.: Campbellocking with Tash
Campbellocking, now often simply shortened to locking, is a highly expressive funk dance style characterized by abrupt body stops in powerful, assertive poses, emphasizing groove, musicality, and the dancer’s personality.
Born in Montreal in 1971, Natasha “Tash” Jean-Bart has been dancing professionally for over 30 years. A member of the Flow Rock crew since 1998, she has trained with international street dance pioneers. In 2005, she became the head judge of Hip Hop International and played the lead role in Cirque du Soleil’s LOVE. She then organized the Las Vegas Locking Camp. As the co-founder of Wättssoul, she supports several other artistic projects. In 2018, she was a locking adjudicator for Juste Debout. Tash continues to pass on her knowledge while remaining a passionate student of street dance culture.
Music, from 7 p.m.: The Brooks
Created in the velvety atmosphere of Dièse Onze, The Brooks quickly cemented their reputation as an undeniable groove machine on the main stages of festivals at home and abroad. Inspired by James Brown, Fela Kuti, and Herbie Hancock, the group navigates seamlessly between funk, soul, R'n'B, afrobeat, and jazz. Featuring visionary bassist Alexandre Lapointe, charismatic singer-trombonist Alan Prater, innovative guitarist Philippe Look, and dynamic percussionist Philippe Beaudin, The Brooks celebrates over 50 years of Afro-American musical heritage. An electrifying collective that remains true to its roots while delivering a resolutely contemporary sound.
On the decks, from 8:30 p.m.: Zamal Funk
Zamal Funk is a Montreal label and collective, founded by DJs Kobal and GrandHuit. Notably active with such flagship events as “Can’t Fake The Funk” and “Muzik Dézil,” Zamal Funk organizes monthly funk-boogie evenings in Montreal and at Place des Arts. The collective is also distinguished by its vinyl reissue work, collaborating with original producers to bring back funk music classics.
