Past and present converse in this journey through the sounds and imaginings of the Orient.

With Scheherazade, Rimsky-Korsakov unfolds the legend of the storyteller whose strength, finesse, and ingenuity triumph over fear: Andrew Wan’s violin embodies her deep, supple, sovereign voice, while conductor Dina Gilbert leads the orchestra like the heroine weaving her destiny. In counterpoint, French composer Thierry Pécou draw us “in the manner of Bali” into his Cara Bali Concerto, performed by pianist Alexandre Tharaud, the work’s dedicatee. Inspired by the cycles, timbres, and poetry of the gamelan, this concerto becomes a bridge to a vibrant elsewhere, where imaginary percussion and piano intertwine in a ballet of interlaced energies. A sensory crossing between legend, rhythm, and light.
