Mossbed: A New Immersive Sound Installation by paysages studio to Be Presented Free of Charge at Place des Arts

Montréal, September 15, 2026 – For a sixth consecutive year, Place des Arts and PHI invite the public to discover a new immersive artwork free of charge. This year, they present Mossbed, a sound installation by paysages studio. Driven by an original composition by Sébastien Sauvageau, the work invites audiences into a contemplative listening experience inspired by the sensitive qualities of moss—its slowness, its capacity for adaptation, and its singular way of inhabiting the world.

About the Experience
At the intersection of sound art, contemporary music, and immersive scenography, Mossbed transforms the exhibition room into a place of contemplation where time seems to stand still. Surrounded by a twenty-minute composition and a minimalist audiovisual environment, audiences are invited to pause, attend to subtle sonic events, and experience a different quality of presence in which moss unfolds in all its multiplicity.

Far from being merely an object of observation, here, moss becomes a metaphor, a state of being. This discreet organism feeds on what is suspended in the air, adapts to every environment—from the ordinary to the unexpected—and blends into its surroundings rather than seeking to dominate them. Mossbed translates this intelligence of living systems into a sensitive immersive experience, offering a mode of listening that is grounded in attention, slowness, and openness, and inviting us, for a few moments, to inhabit the world differently.

“At paysages studio, we believe that listening is a way of inhabiting the world. With Mossbed, we wanted to create a place where, for a moment, we stop producing, performing, or consuming, and simply become present to what surrounds us. It is an invitation to slow down and recover a quality of attention that has become increasingly rare.”

An Original Creation by paysages studio
For Mossbed, paysages studio collaborated with composer Sébastien Sauvageau, whose practice lies at the crossroads of contemporary music, jazz, and electronic music. As musical director and composer of the work, he created an immersive score in which acoustic instruments, synthesized sounds, field recordings, and electronic textures merge into an organic, polymorphic, and enveloping sonic garden inspired by the alterity of bryophytes.

Place des Arts and PHI: A Meaningful Partnership Bringing Immersive Experiences to Audiences
