In Song of Destiny, Brahms set to music the poetry of Friedrich Hölderlin, whose Romantic conjuring of Ancient Greece correlates destiny and consolation. These same themes are also found in that celebration of human fellowship, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. The two masterpieces for choir and orchestra conducted by Rafael Payare conclude a season of momentous sociocultural and human upheavals with hope and grandeur.
