Le 12 février, j’achète un billet pour une sortie culturelle québécoise
Filmmaker Myriam Verreault’s initiative—which translates to “On February 12th, I’m buying a ticket for a Quebec cultural outing”—, aimed at providing symbolic financial support to the local cultural scene, is back again in 2026. This Thursday, buy tickets to see a local show! There’s no shortage of options at Place des Arts… here are a few suggestions.
MUSIC
Have you heard about Les Veillées, the new series of acoustic shows presented in collaboration with SACEF? Alex Burger, Gabriella Olivo, Bïa, Corail, Joseph Marchand, Ponteix, Willows, Velours Velours, and Stéphane Lafleur will take to the stage in Salle Claude-Léveillée, performing solo or with small groups, to deliver unpretentious, raw, intimate, and personal performances. Only 110 lucky fans will be able to attend each show.
And what a coincidence! The spokesperson for the second edition of the “sortie culturelle québécoise” initiative, Ingrid St-Pierre, alone at the piano, is making her way to the Cinquième Salle on February 14th for what promises to be an utterly charming show, just like the artist herself! This piano-vocal format is also being adopted by born showman Dumas, who is leaving his guitar aside for a minimalist performance, interspersed with slides showcasing his 25-year career.
Leading ladies of Quebec song, Joe Bocan and Lynda Lemay, are each presenting new shows blending new material with classic hits. Les Francos de Montréal is also presenting several events at Place des Arts, featuring Cœur de pirate, Pierre Lapointe, Émile Bilodeau, and Maude Audet, while the Festival international de Jazz de Montréal will showcase the talented Flore Laurentienne and Dominique Fils-Aimé.
Looking to support as many musicians as you can? Explore the diverse programs of the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, Orchestre Métropolitain, Opéra de Montréal, or Orchestre National de Jazz de Montréal!
THEATRE AND MUSICALS
Various Indigenous creators have combined their talents to create Tupqan – Nos territoires intérieurs, a collective work resulting from writing residencies at Théâtre Duceppe. See it on stage from March 4 to April 4.
If it takes a village to raise a child, could it perhaps also take several women to raise a mother? This is the question Catherine Côté poses in her dramedy Baby Shower, which humorously addresses several issues and taboos surrounding motherhood.
What might the opening show of a sovereign Quebec look like? That is what Jean-Philippe Baril-Guérard imagines in Un nouveau jour, a play that enjoyed great success at Théâtre La Bordée last fall and is now returning for an encore at Duceppe.
Finally, whether or not you’ve read Kev Lambert’s Querelle de Roberval or Anaïs Barbeau-Lavalette and Steve Gagnon’s Architectures de la joie, you won’t want to miss seeing how these exceptional writers’ works have been transposed onto the stage.
DANCE
Ballets Jazz de Montréal, whose reach extends around the world, is back home in February with La revue finale, presented as part of the Danse Danse programming.
Three prominent Montreal choreographers will also be presenting their new creations in the coming months: Virginie Brunelle questions contemporary issues in Sans quoi nous crèverons, while Anne Plamondon and Vanesa Garcia Ribala Montoya—also a principal dancer with Les Grands Ballets—offer a double bill with The Blue Hour.
COMEDY
What do comedians Louis T, Simon Delisle, Sam Breton, and Pierre Hébert have in common? They’re all bringing their latest shows to Place des Arts in the coming weeks.
Looking to hear some new material? Salle Claude-Léveillée is an increasingly popular venue for trial runs. This will be the case for Alexandre Forest, Justin Guitard, and a certain newcomer… Louis-José Houde.
Finally, Place des Arts is also where Véro et les Fantastiques have chosen to celebrate their 1000th radio show. A unique event—you need to be here, because it’ll only happen once!
These are but a few suggestions of the exciting happenings that await you at Place des Arts. Explore all the Quebec cultural outings available to you!
